HP Presents End-to-End Digital Label Printing Solutions at Labelexpo Europe

Press release from the issuing company

BRUSSELS, Sept. 21, 2005 – HP presents its profit-building solutions for digital label printing at Labelexpo Europe. Five fully operational production lines demonstrate the speed, quality and value of HP's advanced digital printing technology and integrated partner solutions on stand #5D30, Hall 5. The latest range of solutions based on HP Indigo industrial presses provides complete systems for printers to turn technology into business advantage. With a host of value-adding solutions for the short-run label and shrink sleeve market, advanced integrated systems from HP partners, and the widest range of substrates from leading suppliers, digital production has never been a more attractive proposition for label converters. Labelexpo Europe marks the launch of HP's groundbreaking Digital Laser Workflow (DLW) solution, the first fully digital solution for label printers. Developed in partnership with Esko-Graphics and A. B. Graphic International, the streamlined workflow is based on the digital HP Indigo press ws4050. HP's DLW provides high-quality, optimised output for the growing digital cutting market. The HP Indigo press ws4050 is being showcased at Labelexpo Europe, with three presses running -- demonstrating its speed, quality and versatility by printing a range of label and shrink sleeve applications. Configured with front-end tools and finishing options from HP partners, the presses will print on different substrates to suit specific markets, including the food and beverage, cosmetics, and automotive sectors, throughout the show. The first press line demonstrates the Digital Laser Workflow solution for food and beverage label applications with the prepress solutions from Esko-Graphics and the DigiCon laser cutter from A. B. Graphic International. Two production lines will be fed by a second HP Indigo press ws4050 printing labels for the cosmetics and pharmaceutical industries. This configuration will be using production workflow management software from Artwork Systems. This line will supply two near-line finishing lines. One from SMAG is dedicated to finishing cosmetics labels, while the pharmaceutical labels are finished on finishing equipment from Rotoflex. The fourth line comprises an HP Indigo press ws4050 configured for shrink sleeve production, and automotive industry applications, with offline finishing systems from A. B. Graphic International and DCM. The final line features an HP Indigo press ws2000, demonstrating the range of complete solutions for security label printing from HP partners. The HP presses will be running a wide variety of general and application-specific substrates from partner suppliers Raflatac, Fedrigoni, EVC, Avery Dennison and ExxonMobil. HP Specialty Printing Systems (HP SPS) is also participating at the HP stand, showing how OEMs and end-users can easily integrate HP's low-cost thermal inkjet technology into a variety of variable data printing applications for numbering, coding and bar codes with the new HP 4000M Imager. "Labelexpo Europe provides an excellent opportunity for visitors to gain an in-depth insight into HP's new profit model that moves beyond cost, and presents print service providers with a strategy for delivering higher impact, more personalized short-run services, faster," said François Marchal, vice president and general manager, Indigo Press, IPG, EMEA. "The solutions that can be seen on our stand demonstrate the breadth of the opportunities available to printers who move into digital production." Labelexpo Europe is taking place at the Parc des Expositions, Brussels, from September 21-24.
