Mohawk Fine Papers Makes EPA List of Top 25

Press release from the issuing company

COHOES, N.Y., Aug. 12 -- Mohawk Fine Papers Inc., the largest manufacturer of premium printing, identity and imaging papers in the country has been added to the EPA List of Top 25 U.S. Green Power Purchasers. Mohawk (#13) was one of four additions announced this quarter along with HSBC (#7), Starbucks (#22), and Syracuse University (tied for #23). "Mohawk is the only paper manufacturer on the EPA's list. We are very proud of this accomplishment," says Thomas D. O'Connor, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "Our commitment to wind energy enabled us to join the highest level EPA Green Power Partnership Leadership Club. Mohawk's mills are the only paper mills in the U.S. to use wind energy in the manufacture of paper." Mohawk recently announced that the entire Strathmore Writing System (including Strathmore Writing, the #1 selling 25% cotton fiber paper in the U.S.) is now made with windpower at the Beckett Mill in Hamilton, Ohio. Mohawk's Windpower Portfolio customers include General Electric, FedEx/Kinkos and BP Oil, among many others. Mohawk, along with the other Top Green Power Purchasers, are presently buying or generating enough renewable energy to power more than 157,000 homes a year. Together, the Top 25 are using more than 1.7 million megawatt hours of green power annually. Located near Albany, New York, Mohawk manufactures fine printing papers. Mohawk has a longstanding tradition of striving for environmental excellence in all aspects of its business and is today purchasing windpower for 38 percent of its electric energy requirements. "This is a highly visible way to demonstrate our commitment to environmental stewardship," says George Milner, Senior VP, Energy, Environmental and Governmental Affairs. "Customers are responding favorably to Mohawk's commitment. Corporate buyers, in particular, continue to seek ways to make their own sustainability initiatives visible to their customers, shareholders and other interested parties. Printing corporate and marketing messages on paper made with non-polluting windpower is a way to demonstrate commitment to sustainable business practices."
