Limited Edition, Fine Art Lithograph Poker Posters Created on Domtar EarthChoice Paper

Press release from the issuing company

LAS VEGAS--June 27, 2005-- Demonstrating the performance of socially and environmentally responsible, archival-quality Domtar EarthChoice papers, Cerebral Brinksmen(TM) LLC, Above the Line LLC and Domtar have introduced two poker-themed fine art lithograph posters designed by artist and master printmaker Walter Gabrielson. "The Nuts" and "River Rat," which appeal to the worldwide phenomenon of Texas Hold 'Em poker, were created using a newly invented printing process that combines the artistry of stone lithography with high-speed digital printing technology. Three hundred signed, limited-edition prints and retail posters will be unveiled this week on the homepage of BareWalls.com. They will also debut concurrently at the upcoming World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. "We're pushing the technology of printmaking to make affordable, hand-separated, seven-color fine art prints available to casual art lovers and poker enthusiasts everywhere," said Karl Bornstein, principal of Cerebral Brinksmen. Originally created as three-foot by four-foot oil paintings on canvas, "The Nuts" depicts the King of Hearts and the King of Spades each holding giant chestnuts. "River Rat" features a hip rat, which has an Ace of Spades playing card in its mouth, being swept up just in time to ride the winning wave. Gabrielson deconstructed his original paintings by hand onto red and black frosted individual Mylar plates. "There was no assistance or collaboration from any other artist or chromist," Bornstein said. The plates were then combined and printed at Las Vegas Colorgraphics using an eight-color Komori Lithrone 40 digital press and light-fastened, custom-picked opaque inks. "With digital printing technology, we can now print an entire run of solid color high-quality lithographic prints in one day. In the past it would have taken at least a month to do this edition," Bornstein noted. Bornstein also said the right kind of paper was critical to this process. He used 80lb. Domtar Solutions Smooth Carrara White cover paper, one of the 13 products in the Domtar EarthChoice line of socially and environmentally responsible papers. Each Domtar EarthChoice paper contains virgin fiber that is certified to the Forest Stewardship Council's rigorous forest management standards. Most of the Domtar EarthChoice papers also contain post-consumer waste content. It is the only paper line endorsed by environmental conservation organizations. "The Domtar paper performed beautifully in this challenging press environment and the ink holdout for each unique color was extraordinary. The paper's neutral pH will allow these limited-edition prints to last for 400 to 500 years. Walter was also pleased that the paper fiber was harvested from responsibly managed forests," he said. "Fine art lithographic prints require paper of the absolute highest quality," said Greg Strand, Domtar's regional sales manager - West. "We're thrilled Walter Gabrielson and Cerebral Brinksmen chose a Domtar EarthChoice paper for such a unique and challenging printing application." In addition to being the only poker-themed fine artwork at this year's World Series of Poker tournament, the lithographs will also be exhibited on July 14, 15 and 16 at the Reelgraphs Galleries in the Caesar's Palace Forum Shops. Barewalls Interactive Art, Inc. is also featuring both "The Nuts" and "River Rat" on the homepage of its e-commerce site, Barewalls.com. Barewalls is the supplier for all large framing orders for major retailers, as well as all online individual retail consumer's framed orders.
