First of Oce VarioStream 9000 Revolutionary Platform Now Generally Available

Press release from the issuing company

BOCA RATON, Fla, October 5, 2004 — Oce, a global leader in digital document management and delivery solutions, announces General Availability for the first system in its revolutionary Océ VarioStream 9000 platform of digital continuous-forms, web-fed printing systems. Now, the Océ VarioStream 9210 is the initial offering in the industry leading VarioStream 9000 family to deliver black and color-ready digital printing that meets the growing demand for affordable black and white output at production-level speeds, while providing an upgrade path to Océ CustomTone highlight color, and ultimately full process color. Building on a long-standing commitment to helping organizations run their operations more predictably and efficiently, Océ sets the standard once again with continuous forms digital systems created specifically for high-volume, quality-intensive, single-pass duplex applications. The flexibility of the Océ VarioStream 9000 platform makes black and highlight color printing as productive, affordable, and future-proof as possible while establishing a migration path to greater color capabilities. The Océ VarioStream 9210 gives users high-speed, black & white printing at the rate of 853 ipm. Océ is committed to meeting the market’s evolving requirement for greater cost efficiency, reliability and versatility through the use of the Océ VarioStream 9000 family members. The systems deliver the offset-class quality, total cost of ownership, and production-class performance needed for transaction printing and production publishing in one convergent system. Commercial printers find the new Océ VarioStream 9000 systems similarly designed to web-fed presses yet enhanced with sophisticated digital workflow capabilities. This unique engineering approach gives users familiar functionality, while allowing for greater digital flexibility and cost savings when making the transition to digital printing. The highest quality color systems traditionally cost more to run, especially for black and white documents, and they aren't built for production speeds. On the other hand, systems that deliver production-class speeds can’t deliver the quality that high-visibility documents demand. With the general release of the Océ VarioStream 9210, Océ gives the marketplace a migration platform for color with a competitive cost per impression and a lower cost per page for black and white, extending Océ’s industry-leading reputation for lowest total cost of ownership. The delivery of this system illustrates Océ’s ability to deliver on its market commitments on time while ensuring future evolution of technological development. “Today’s commercial printers face ever-increasing demands to do more work with fewer resources as they deal with the pressures of converging applications, shorter run lengths, migration to digital printing, tighter budgets, shrinking schedules and the costs involved in managing pre-press workflows,” said Carl Joachim, vice president of marketing for Océ North America’s Digital Document Systems division. “In response to these challenges and to help our customers achieve higher levels of success and ease the transition to digital web press production, Océ is meeting its commitment to deliver new offerings with the added capability of the Océ VarioStream 9000 digital press platform.” Unique Imaging Technology Delivers Unprecedented Flexibility The flexibility of the Océ VarioStream 9000 platform makes black and color printing productive, affordable and future-proof. The key is design innovation that enables unprecedented flexibility and a migration path to color printing in one system. The cornerstone of the new Océ VarioStream platform is the unique Océ TriboPrint multi-stage imaging technology enabling black and white and up to five-over-five color printing, with simultaneous duplex printing and contactless infrared fusing. With Océ TriboPrint, the Océ VarioStream 9000 platform presents a migration path towards color by combining the possibilities of a black and white system with the opportunities of additional Océ CustomTone, Multi-Custom Tone, and full color printing in future steps. The Océ VarioStream 9210 printer delivers benchmark application and media versatility. Commercial print users can produce more types of applications on a wider range of substrates, with the options that count—variable data, personalization, and edge-to-edge printing on forms up to 19 inches wide. For completely controllable and customizable output, new Océ FlexiDark technology sets toner density as high or low as needed while still producing documents with even coverage, perfect consistency, and no compromises in fill coverage—ideal for the exacting standards of commercial printers. A tight paper web ensures total media control and perfect registration on every document. Océ PRISMA workflow management software optimizes the performance of the Océ VarioStream 9000 solution. Océ PRISMA is an integrated family of adaptive workflow management software that enables work to flow faster and more efficiently across data center, office network, commercial printing, and central reprographic environments. As a result, the combination of PRISMA workflow and the new Océ VarioStream 9000 platform give commercial printers the ability to reduce pre-press set up times from days to minutes while also improving operational cost savings and enhancing productivity.
