Quad/Graphics Deploys SSL VPN-Based Customer Extranet

Press release from the issuing company

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--Aug. 10, 2004-- Juniper Networks, Inc. today announced that Quad/Graphics, the world's largest privately held printer of magazines, catalogs and other commercial products, has created a secure extranet environment providing its customers direct, controlled access to select networked applications and resources by deploying the NetScreen Secure Access 3000 SSL VPN appliances. The new SSL VPN deployment increases productivity of Quad/Graphics' customers by allowing them to have access to their publishing materials, such as image files, page files and printing proofs, while increasing the security of the Quad/Graphics network. "In our fast-paced printing world, each minute counts toward a deadline," said Damian Drewek, director of Technical Services at Quad/Graphics. "Our previous FTP site process was complicated and the double-process of saving materials in our server, as well as posting it to the FTP site, used up valuable productivity time for us and our customers. We turned to our trusted data security partner, SynerComm, for an extranet solution. Through the NetScreen Secure Access SSL VPN we can better serve our customers, who are now able to access their data directly in our server, while our network benefits from the added security protection the appliance provides." Quad/Graphics needed a rapidly scalable and clientless remote access solution that would enable its customers anywhere, anytime access to their specific magazine image files, page files and printing (content and color) proofs. SynerComm Inc., a leading IT systems integrator offering secure and manageable network infrastructure solutions located in Brookfield, Wis., recommended the NetScreen Secure Access 3000 appliances as a customer extranet solution. Deployed at the Quad/Graphics headquarters in Sussex, Wis., the access privilege management features of the NetScreen Secure Access 3000 appliances enable customers to have access to only those data resources that they are authorized to view. In addition, deploying the NetScreen Secure Access appliances enables Quad/Graphics to consolidate the disparate hardware and software technologies in its network, as well as provide better remote access security measures around its resources. Mark Sollazo, president and CEO of SynerComm, added, "SynerComm is a preferred partner of Juniper Networks and when we first reviewed their SSL VPN initiatives, we knew the Juniper Networks SSL VPN solution would exceed the stringent application and security requirements of our customers. We've been working with Quad/Graphics for the past several years and are committed to bringing them best-of-breed solutions that increase security, productivity and operational efficiencies." The NetScreen Secure Access 3000 delivers custom extranet functionality without the cost, complexity and scalability challenges associated with traditional extranets and Quad/Graphics' previous choice of remote access technologies. Through any Internet-enabled computer with a standard Web browser, the NetScreen Secure Access 3000 enables authorized Quad/Graphics customers to securely access native client applications on the Quad/Graphics network to view and approve their publishing materials.
