Trend gains environmentally conscious FSC Chain of Custody certification

Press release from the issuing company

LOS ALAMITOS, CA (August 16, 2007) – Trend Offset Printing has achieved Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification after a complete audit and inspection of its three printing facilities in California, Texas and Florida.
The certification verifies that Trend is part of a “Chain of Custody” that tracks certified paper products from the forest to the printer and ensures that FSC-certified products originate from well-managed forests.
“We are proud to say that we are a ‘green’ company,” said Warren Dow, president and CEO of Trend Offset Printing. “Protecting the environment is very important to us – we choose to be environmentally responsible in our manufacturing process and this certification adds to that effort.”
Trend’s Chain of Custody certification means that certain paper purchased by Trend is segregated and documented as having originated in an FSC-certified forest, and therefore Trend has the ability to produce environmentally responsible printed products by using FSC-certified paper. Clients of Trend may now choose to use FSC-certified paper and the FSC logo on their printed product to inform their customers of their choice to use forest-friendly paper stock.
By becoming FSC certified, Trend’s three plants in Los Alamitos, CA; Carrollton, TX; and Jacksonville, FL; are part of a larger picture of FSC-certified forests, mills, merchants and other printers who all choose to be environmentally conscious and stand against irresponsible forestry practices.
“The process to gain FSC certification was very rigorous,” said Pratap Padalkar, Trend’s corporate director of environmental health and safety. “This is another example to show how important health, safety and the environment are to Trend.”
The FSC is a non-profit organization that monitors logging procedures and works to eliminate logging accompanying practices such as habitat destruction, water pollution, displacement of indigenous people and violence against people and wildlife.
This latest landmark achievement is part of a continuing effort by Trend to preserve the environment. In May, Trend’s California plant received a Waste Management Reduction Program (WRAP) award from the California Integrated Waste Management board for responsible waste prevention, recovery, reuse and recycling activities. Also this year, the Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA) awarded Trend Florida an Environmental Stewardship Award for achieving 100% environmental compliance in industrial pretreatment for 2006.
