Press release from the issuing company

May 5, 2003 -- Xaar plc (“Xaar”), the ink jet printing technology group headquartered in Cambridge, announces the appointment of Nigel Berry as Finance Director and Company Secretary with effect from 20 May 2002, following the recent decision by Gordon MacLeod to return to his native New Zealand with his family. Mr. Berry, ACA, aged 42, was previously Chief Financial Officer of Cambridge Display Technology Ltd., a Cambridge-based business which owns and exploits global patents on light emitting polymer technology, utilising ink jet printing as an enabler. Prior to joining Cambridge Display Technology, he was Finance Director of Rexam Printing Ltd. (the printing division of Rexam plc), Chief Operating Officer and Finance Director of Wassall Asia Pacific Ltd. (a Singapore listed subsidiary of Wassall plc) and Financial Controller of Wassall plc. A graduate of Sheffield University, he trained with Coopers & Lybrand. Mr. MacLeod will step down from the Board on Mr. Berry taking up his appointment as an executive director, but will continue to offer his services to Xaar for a handover period. Chairman, Arie Rosenfeld, commented : “We are pleased to welcome Nigel Berry as Xaar’s new Finance Director. His experience and background are an excellent match with our business, which embraces the sale of both high technology manufactured products and intellectual property on a global basis. “The Board would like to thank Gordon MacLeod for his excellent contribution to Xaar’s development during the four years he has been with the company and wish him well for his return to New Zealand.”
