PALO ALTO, Calif.--April 1, 2003-- HP today unveiled the HP Scanjet 8200 series flatbed scanners designed to streamline the document management process for companies of all sizes. HP entered the document management space years ago with the introduction of the HP Digital Sender and a line of robust multi-function printers. The new HP Scanjet 8200 series scanners broaden HP's content management portfolio of capture devices by offering extended document management capabilities in PC-connected scanning environments. The new scanners are affordable for small- to medium-sized offices and offer connectivity to larger, complex document management systems in large corporate and government installations. In addition, they are designed to commercial-grade quality with commercial service and support, replaceable parts, commercial speed and image quality, duty cycles and commercial connectivity. Key product highlights include: The 8200 series provides copy-machine-type performance in a landscape profile with a highly reliable, integrated automatic document feeder (ADF) at up to 15 and 25 pages per minute (ppm) with two-sided scanning capabilities. First-to-market with true 4,800 optical dots per inch (dpi), the HP Scanjet 8200 series scanners offer the highest imaging quality for customers with image-intensive needs and in-box software for office-based image management to ensure clear, sharp scans. With quiet operation, the scanners are fast and preview scans in four seconds, helping speed the total scanning task. Six convenient one-touch operation buttons are located directly on the scanners for effortless execution of everyday tasks. Tasks that can be initiated with a simple press of a button include easy save, e-mail, optical character recognition (OCR), copy and scan photos and documents. "Prior to developing the Scanjet 8200 series scanners, HP conducted research to better understand customer scanning needs and uncovered three distinct user types: users with intensive image scanning needs, those who primarily scan documents, and finally, versatile users who routinely scan both images and documents," said Linda O'Brien, future product marketing manager, HP Imaging and Printing Group. Three Models for Targeted Needs The HP Scanjet 8200 series includes three different models, each with software to meet specific user needs: The HP Scanjet 8200 scanner is geared toward users who perform primarily image-intensive scanning. This model -- with up to 4,800 optical dpi resolution and 48-bit color -- comes with a transparent materials adapter built directly into its lid. Unlike with some competitive scanners, no extra pieces are required to capture these types of scans. The HP Scanjet 8250 scanner is intended for users with both document and imaging scanning needs. This scanner is ideal for small- to medium-sized businesses and many departments in large organizations that need a device to handle documents effectively, yet still be available for occasional professional image scanning. Fast, efficient paper handling with an ADF gives users the ability to scan up to 15 ppm and two-sided scanning capabilities. The HP Scanjet 8290 scanner is designed for users with document-intensive needs and comes with an ADF that can process scans at up to 25 ppm and can duplex with the flip of a switch. The Scanjet 8290 comes with a wide variety of in-box software, including Kofax VirtualReScan (VRS) image enhancement. VRS software performs an extensive inspection of each document, which significantly improves readability and OCR results of scanned images by automatically straightening, cropping and optimizing exposure in real time. The bundle also includes Pixel Translations' ISIS drivers for simplified connectivity to simple or complex, custom or standard document management systems.
