February Ad Revenue and Ad Pages Continue Positive Trends in 2003

New York, NY (March 11, 2003) — Total magazine advertising revenue for the month of February increased 10.2% compared to February of last year, closing at $1,222,286,232, according to Publishers Information Bureau (PIB). Ad pages for February totaled 15,593.2, up 1.8% from last year. Year-to-date, advertising revenue closed at $2,105,935,529, an increase of 9.8%, and ad pages were 28,094.9, up 3.1% from last year. February 2003 vs. 2002 Eight of the twelve major advertising categories experienced an increase in advertising revenue over February 2002, while seven of twelve recorded ad page growth. The Automotive and Drugs & Remedies categories saw considerable advertising revenue and page increases in February 2003. (Twelve categories are the most significant contributors to PIB revenue, comprising more than 85% of total advertising spending.) January – February 2003 vs. 2002 Ten out of the twelve major advertising categories sustained dollar gains for the year-to-date comparison. These categories included Automotive, Public Transportation, Hotels & Resorts and Drugs & Remedies. Seven of twelve categories saw an increase in ad pages, most notable in Automotive.
