Monday, December 16, 2002

Press release from the issuing company

December 16, 2002 -- (WhatTheyThink.com - contributing columnist Cary Sherburne) -- Ron Daly, the newly named CEO of Oce-USA Holding, has commented on Oce’s strategy, organizational structure and product plans in an exclusive interview with WhatTheyThink.com.  Daly, who joins Oce after 38 years with R. R. Donnelley, stressed the importance of outsourcing services and solutions selling as essential to Oce’s future success.  “Oce is going though a transformation like Donnelley did, from selling a discrete product - printing in Donnelley’s case and printers in Oce’s case -- to selling value-added complete solutions.  My job at Oce, as it was at Donnelley, is getting the organization to recognize the storehouse of knowledge that exists within the company and to package that knowledge to sell to customers as solutions.” Daly expressed satisfaction with the work Oce has accomplished over the last two years, as the company has moved to restructure the organization to better meet customer needs, as well as to revitalize its production printing product line.   He also confirmed the company’s commitment to commercial printers.  According to Daly, “With today’s market trend of convergence and the commercial printer’s interest in moving short run pages from offset presses to the flexible digital platform, Oce is well positioned to continue its success in this area.   My grounding in the commercial print arena will help to sharpen Oce’s focus on delivering total solutions to this market.” Recognizing the challenges facing the company, Daly nevertheless was upbeat about Oce’s prospects.  “Oce is a very strong company—financially, technologically, and people-wise.  We have been expanding nicely—but are still not very well known.  We are like David out to slay a bunch of Goliaths.  I have my slingshots ready.  This is going to be fun.” *Editor’s Note: This news story contains excerpts from a two part interview conducted by Cary Sherburne.
