INX Customer Earns Multiple PLGA Global Awards

Press release from the issuing company

Schaumburg, IL -- Alcan Packaging of Weston, Ontario, Canada received three International Print Quality Awards at last month’s Packaging and Label Gravure Association (PLGA) annual Operational Conference.  Held on March 11 at the Hilton Downtown in Miami, Florida, Alcan winners that used inks from INX International Ink Co. were for Flexible Packaging Film/Film Lamination, Bags, and the Sleeves/Tube Reverse Printed category.

“We congratulate Alcan Packaging on its exceptional night and multiple award winners,” said Lou DeFlaviis, INX Vice President of Sales for Packaging Business Development.  “We are very pleased that our products not only played a role in this highly competitive global competition, but they also contribute to Alcan’s success on a daily basis.”

DeFlaviis said the inks used for the winning entrees were Synergy™, an extremely cost-effective and flexible system, as well as Roto Lamiall®, a long-time leading laminating ink.  “These high performance inks are ideal for multiple color and multiple substrate jobs.  They can be custom tailored on site for specific applications and they provide superb printability.  Those are the key reason why they were selected by the PLGA judges.”

Juicy Fruit Squeezers is an “in-your-face package with dynamic colors,” according to the award committee, displaying “high-end design graphics with mouth-watering fruit.”  The Flexible Packaging Film/Film Lamination winner for Alcan is reverse-printed with seven colors and white.  “Roto Lamiall white, with its high performance and low solvent retention, makes an ideal backing ink for jobs such as this,” DeFlaviis said.

Dial Cranberry Antioxidant Bar also was reverse printed by Alcan, earning its award in the Sleeves/Tube category.  The nine-color job with a registered lacquer is printed on several different size wraps and must meet consistent color standards.  Judges noted the package’s overall cranberry feeling, the quality reproduction of halftones and vignettes as well as the added-value appearance provided by silver.

“INX’ Synergy™ is an adhesive lamination ink system that can be custom-blended on-site,” DeFlaviis said. “Simply by changing the letdown, users can tailor Synergy for different substrates and other application-specific requirements.”

Pedigree Super Chow scored in the Bag category for Alcan, with judges noting the dog depicts the Gold Standard required for pet food packaging.  They also commented on the quality of contrasting blue and yellow components in this seven-color job and the sharpness of both reversed-out and normal type.  It was printed on film/film laminate with the Roto Lamiall ink system and white.

“The diversity and complexity of these award-winning packages speaks well of our inks, and also is strong testimony to the people and pressroom capabilities of Alcan Packaging,” concluded DeFlaviis.
