Presstek Takes #1 and #2 Positions in Recent CtP Market Study

Press release from the issuing company

HUDSON, N.H., Sept. 17 -- Presstek, Inc., the leading provider of direct digital imaging technology, today announced that a recent State Street Consultants, Inc. (SSCI) market study ranks Presstek's Dimension400 CTP system the #1 choice in four-up CTP systems among smaller printers. SSCI also reports that the Dimension400 holds the #2 market share position for four-up CTP systems installed in North America. “Presstek has achieved significant forward momentum since the launch of the Dimension CTP family," said Edward Marino, Presstek President and CEO. "While we are pleased to see printers embracing Presstek's CTP products in increasing numbers -- we are not going to rest on this achievement. There are thousands of printers who could benefit from our chemistry-free technology, and our job is to show them just how easy, and profitable, it can be to make that investment." SSCI's study, The Changing Dynamics of CTP Market Share, reports that although 8-page systems account for 72% of the installed systems in North America, 4-page CTP systems are increasingly important and now represent one in five systems installed. State Street Consultants, Inc. expects this growth trend to continue as smaller printers with 4-page presses adopt CTP. The study reports that CTP sales have moved away from the large printers toward the smaller printers (fewer than 20 employees). Small printers comprise the largest segment of the printing market and have basic requirements and financial resources that are quite different from medium- and large-sized printers. The adoption rate among small printers is increasing as more affordable systems come into the market. "Presstek was founded on the idea of making the printing press a computer peripheral, resulting in a process that is easier, faster and more productive. Presstek's chemistry-free CTP solution provides many of these advantages to printers who are not expanding their pressrooms right now," added Marino. "Our experience with on-press imaging, especially with smaller presses, has given us tremendous insight into what the smaller printer needs to be more productive and more profitable. We understand those requirements, and our products and services are uniquely designed to address them - from the small footprint of the device, to the elimination of chemistry which removes many variables in the platemaking process." Presstek will be showcasing the Dimension CTP family and Anthem chemistry- free plates at the upcoming Graph Expo show in Chicago, October 6th-9th. In addition to the Presstek booth, #4857, Dimension and Anthem will be showcased in a number of partner booths, including MAN Roland (#1032), EFI (#4853), and Xpedx (#4824). Presstek, Inc. is a leading developer of digital laser imaging and chemistry-free plate technologies for the printing and graphic arts industries. Marketed to world-leading press manufacturers and directly to end users, Presstek's patented DI, CTP and plate products eliminate photographic darkrooms, film and toxic processing chemicals, reduce the printing turnaround time and lower the production costs.
