Study: Publishers Weaning Themselves Off Prepress Vendors
Wednesday, October 24, 2001
According to TrendWatch, 31% of magazine publishers see "bring more prepress work in house" as a sales opportunity. Scanning, digital photography, proofing--outsourcing this stuff costs money, and if there's one thing many magazine publishers don't have a lot of these days (aside from pages), it's money. Desktop hardware and software has now reached a price/quality nexus that allows publishers (and design and production folks, too) to wean themselves off a reliance on outside prepress vendors. For many publishers--this is their Prepress Independence Day.
