CHICAGO, IL, September 6, 2001 – In time for PRINT 01, the National Association for Printing Leadership (NAPL) has announced the publication of a new series of convenient pocket-sized reference books, entitled the Pocket University Book Series, each of which clearly and succinctly explains a specific, fundamental printing-related process. Conceived and developed by Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Professor Frank Romano, the series covers 34 essential topics in all. "From novice designer, to CSR, to sales pro, to seasoned printer, these books should be in every printing house, service bureau, and design firm," said Professor Romano, who is chair of RIT’s School of Printing. "We’ve put these books together to make the new world of print clear and accessible to everyone in the industry." Created for anyone with an interest in printing and the graphic arts, NAPL’s Pocket University books include the following titles: PostScript, Fonts, EPS, TIFF, PDF, QuarkXpress, InDesign, Photoshop, HTML, XML, Digital Photography, Images, File Formats, Scanning, Preflighting, RIPS, Dot Gain, Trapping, Imposition, Windows, MacOS, Workflow, Digital Printing, Variable Data Printing, DI Presses, Paper, Binding and Finishing, E-business, Record Media, Digital Asset Management, Presses and Printing, Basic Color, Color Management, and Proofing. "By breaking down the major techniques, tools and trends in the printing industry today, the Pocket University Book Series offers clear definitions of the terms and techno-speak you hear every day," points out I. Gregg Van Wert, NAPL’s president. "Short, to the point, and written in plain English, they explain everything from Acrobat to XML in terms even a novice can understand." The result of a collaborative effort by some of the most respected scholars and educators in the printing industry, including Frank Romano, Patti Russotti, Peter Muir, David Broudy, and Tim Dalton, the NAPL Pocket University Series is priced at $15 per copy ($12 for NAPL members).
