From QuarkXPress-to-XML, the Web and Beyond, Atomik 2.0 Saves Publishers Time

Press release from the issuing company

Easypress Technologies has announced the availability of the latest version of its powerful QuarkXPress-to-XML software, Atomik. Version 2.0 significantly reduces the cost of repurposing print content for the Web and other electronic media. The new features open up the software to a wider range of publications, bring increased user control and smarter integration with 3rd party database and content management systems. “We believe that Atomik 2.0 is the most efficient, automated and easy-to-use tool on the market for converting QuarkXPress content into XML,” says Lori Mercier, Easypress Technologies Managing Director and CEO. “Atomik enables publishers to maximise the value of their editorial content and save time and money.” Powerful Automation Atomik features powerful document-by-document processing enabling users to extract the content of an entire QuarkXPress document in a single pass without the need for any user intervention. Atomik also supports the extraction of tabular data from QuarkXPress into a structured format. New in Atomik 2.0 is automated image extraction so users no longer have to manually associate images with text-based content. This level of automation means that non-technical and technical staff alike can use the product with equal ease and minimal impact on existing workflows. Works with more publications The enhanced Ruleset Manager in Atomik 2.0 enables faster and easier configuration of documents for the XML extraction process. It also brings greater control to the process through the Style Property Filter that enables the use of pure and altered styles. Additionally, the new visual indicators let users quickly see which styles have and haven’t been configured for extraction. Unique Features Atomik 2.0 adds controls for specifying exactly how Atomik runs through a document to extract the QuarkXPress content and in what order this occurs. This is extremely important in that it enables Atomik 2.0 to handle a variety of publication layouts automatically. This is in stark contrast to most other QuarkXPress-to-XML solutions that involve time-intensive manual processes. With Atomik 2.0, users can select from default or reverse box ordering and combine this with inline boxes, grouped items or even use dividing lines to specify the order in which Atomik extracts content. For example, in the case of a newspaper or a magazine, Atomik 2.0 can use the news story dividers to indicate all of the content associated with a single story. This “out of the box” flexibility is something that has to date been unavailable to publishers. 3rd Party Integration Included in Atomik 2.0 is Atomik Enhancer, a Java-based application that can take the extracted XML and enhance and transform it into whatever XML format the publisher requires. This enables publishers to add metadata that was not on the QuarkXPress page, such as the publication name and issue, or automatically change image paths so that the XML loads Web-ready images. Alternatively, Atomik Enhancer can split the XML into individual XML files e.g. a separate XML file for each news story. These otherwise time consuming and tedious tasks are completely automated, enabling easier integration of the extracted XML with content management and database systems. Atomik Enhancer turns hours of work into minutes. Other new features in Atomik 2.0 include enhanced XML previewing and licence management. Pricing and Availability Atomik 2.0 is available immediately, direct from Easypress Technologies in the UK. The suggested retail price in the UK and all other markets outside of the Americas is £4,995 (ex. VAT) for a single user licence. In the Americas, suggested retail price is $6,995. Multi-pack prices are also available upon request. Easypress Technologies will shortly be adding overseas resellers for Atomik.
