JDF User Group to Hold Next Meeting at Cox Target Media

Press release from the issuing company

Pittsburgh, PA, October 13, 2008 - The JDF User Group will hold its next meeting at Cox Target Media in Largo, FL on November 18-19, 2008. The goal of the JDF User Group collaboration between the Printing Industries of America/Graphic Arts Technical Foundation (PIA/GATF) and the International Cooperation for the Integration of Process in Prepress, Press, and Postpress (CIP4) is manifold: 1 - To establish a peer group, 2 - provide implementation solutions for printers using JDF enabled systems, and 3 - to open communication lines between these users and vendors on the implementation and utilization of JDF-enabled systems across multiple vendor platforms.

Valpak envelopes are produced at Cox Target Media's state of the art facility in Florida. These envelopes have been specifically developed to optimize production, minimize operator intervention, and increase response time. This new, $220-million facility is fully automated, utilizing JDF for operation of the plant and JMF for real-time reporting. It has combined the latest automated prepress, printing, finishing, and distribution utilizing JDF/JMF technology and, in doing so, has created one of world's most automated printing plants.(JDF and JMF defined below.)

Cox Target Media has raised the bar and represents a quantum change in what can be achieved with JDF. Attendees of the JDF User Group meeting will participate in a tour of this facility, learn about the challenges involved with the site's implementation, and discover first-hand why Cox Target Media chose the open approach of a JDF system and not a closed, proprietary system.

Though only recently established, the JDF User Group meetings are quickly becoming the premiere forum for the exchange of ideas and solutions relating to JDF workflow.

PIA/GATF Vice President, Research and Technology, Dr. Mark Bohan, says, "I am very excited about this group, as it gives printers a practical guide to JDF implementation based on best practices and experiences in the industry."

The group welcomes a wide range of users of JDF-enabled systems as well as the suppliers of those systems. All interested parties are welcome to become members. More information can be found at www.jdfusergroup.org or by contacting Mark Bohan at 412-259-1782 or [email protected].
