Eastern Paper Raises Performance in Digital Printing Papers

Press release from the issuing company

Uncoated papers advance on expensive coated grades for print quality, brightness and high recycled content NEW YORK--April 22, 2002-- For the first time, digitally-printed uncoated papers can deliver the superior image quality of high-cost coated papers, said the CEO of an independent U.S. specialty papermaker. Eastern Paper pioneered the patent-pending manufacturing processes used in this new generation of uncoated papers, which create extraordinary print results on dry- and liquid-toner lasers. CEO Joseph H. Torras, Sr. said the new digital papers will help commercial printers generate fresh profit opportunities and can enable corporations to reduce total costs of digital print projects. Torras also said his Amherst, Mass.-based company has brought the industry's highest recycled content to digital printing papers--just as corporations and consumers push anew for eco-friendly papers. Most papers for digital printing today have very low recycled content. Eastern's high-brightness text and cover laser papers--marketed as Eastern Digital--feature recycled content ranging from 30% to 100% through an internationally unique recycled fiber recovery process that has been recognized by the U.S. government. "These new developments in digital printing papers--major quality advances on uncoated papers and a high benchmark on recycled content--are very significant for anybody using today's digital printing technology," said Torras. "All this will stimulate new demand for digital printing, generate new profit-making opportunities for printers and publishers, and can reduce total print-job costs for corporations." The Eastern Digital lineup features six recycled text and cover gradelines that have been engineered to run in dry- and liquid-toner laser printers. The papers, for color and monochrome printing, feature the stiffness and brilliant printing of higher-cost coated papers at uncoated price points. The latest addition to the digital line-up is Docupaque, the lightest-weight printing and book publishing grade on the market to run on digital presses. This lightweight sheet costs less than competitive grades and generates postal savings exceeding 25%. Eastern Digital papers also include eCover, eColor, eWriting, Logic Laser and Certificate Laser, a premium, watermarked 25% cotton sheet. Eastern Paper is a fully-integrated, premium printing paper manufacturer with operations in Brewer, Maine and Lincoln, Maine. Its papers are distributed across North America.
