Over at The Living Principles, an interesting profile of Dutch designer Dave Hakkens who has developed a wind-powered oil-pressing machine. Nuts? You bet!
I made an oil pressing machine which works only on wind energy. The machine is made to press nuts and seeds such as walnuts, peanuts, sesame seeds, linseeds, hazelnuts. The wind power is transformed with a worm drive to make the movement slow but very powerful.
As for the containers in which to store his oils, he cleans reuses old condiment bottles. The only things he pays for are corks and labels. As for his main source of power: “We have quite some wind here, just for free!”
