Anyway, as I begin a month of traveling—largely by air—this headline in Discover caught my eye: “Which Airports Will Give Wings to the Next Pandemic?” MIT researchers plotted the routes of individual travelers and has come up with purportedly the most hughly contagious airports. Aside from the usual suspects—places with the most connections, which the researchers describe as “super spreaders”—like JFK and LAX, they also identify Honolulu as the third most contagious airport, compared to Atlanta, which ranks only eighth. How in the name of Jack Lord did Honolulu get on the list?

Whereas Atlanta’s connections are primarily regional, Honolulu funnels travelers on their way to major international hubs.

Interesting model and the video is kind of cool. Seems appropriate that the narrator sounds like she has a cold! (Lest it seem like I am dissing airports, they're not all bad, and I hasten to point out that I deliberately try to connect through Baltimore whenever possible because Phillips Seafood at BWI has the best fried calamari I have ever had.)
