Here’s an intriguing idea, for those with the nose for it: a new perfume or cologne (is there a difference?) that lets the wearer smell like a book. Yes, it’s called
Paper Passion, and it lets you unleash your inner librarian—if you dare!
The idea for the perfume, named Paper Passion, came when Karl Lagerfeld alerted Gerhard Steidl to the importance of a book’s smell. Hidden inside the pages of a book, Paper Passion is accompanied by commentary from its famous creators.
Speaking about the fragrance, Steidl says: “Paper passion has evolved into something quite beautiful and unique. To wear the smell of a book is something very chic. Books are players in the intellectual world, but also in the world of luxury.”
For the older folks, maybe there is an antiquarian paper passion that lets you smell like a musty used bookstore. Actually, I think I had several English professors who already wore such a scent.
I expect at some point we will be encouraged to have “paperless passion,” although I have no idea what that would smell like.
