Despite the attempt by some to do away with the printed greeting card, Apple recently announced the imminent availability (October 12) of Cards, a new app that will let iPhone and iPad users create custom greeting cards from their smartphone photos, which Apple will then print out and mail via the USPS. Engadget liveblogged last week’s “Let’s Talk iPhone” event, at which the Cards app was announced. Cards will be printed—via letterpress, according to Apple—on 100% cotton paper, and will cost $2.99 for cards mailed within the U.S. and $4.99 for those sent elsewhere. I have been eagerly following mobile-to-print apps, and look forward to playing with Cards as soon as it is available.
