If you are in a corporate environment and have actually thought about the environment before printing something—and have decided you need to print it anyway—new software (now in public beta) from GreenPrint Technologies called
GreenPrint Advisor will let you find the most cost-effective and efficient printer on a network. By “printer” we mean “network printing device” not commercial print provider. The software labels all available printers as “red,” “yellow,” or “green,” (three guesses which is best) based on that printer’s cost and efficiency attributes. IT administrators can customize these tags and provide per-page costs.
Environmental Leader has more. It is also worth pointing out that Canon has similar software called
UniFLOW.
