CRO MagazineCRO (Corporate Responsibility Officer) magazine targets executives who make corporate responsibility decisions for their organizations in such areas as: compliance, CSR (corporate social responsibility), ethics, governance, risk management, sustainability, workforce issues/diversity, international, communications, and legal. For 10 years, the publication has examined the largest US public companies to create its 100 Best Corporate Citizens List. Reviewing public documents, CRO selects leaders in seven categories: environment, climate change, human rights, philanthropy, employee relations, finance and governance. When calculating the results, environment and employee relations each count 19.5% toward the final score, while climate change and human rights come in next at 16.5% and 16%, respectively. The remaining categories financial, philanthropy, and governance are ranked 12.5%, 9%, and 7%. You'll recognize a few familiar companies on the Best Corporate Citizens list:
  • IBM (#3)
  • HP (#5)
  • Xerox (#16)
  • Weyerhaeuser (#37)
  • Microsoft (#47)
  • Apple (#77)
  • Pitney Bowes (#84)
We also have some of our own industry leaders ranking high on environment and climate change. HP ranked #1, Xerox #9, and IBM #10. HP also ranked #8 on the climate change index and, in a twist of irony, Weyerhaeuser was listed at #3 for climate change while ranked #135 for environment.
