Founded in 1992, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (a CEO-led, global association of some 200 companies around the world) is focused on the belief that business has a critical role to play in the search for sustainable development. WBCSD has a wide range of documents and case studies available to download or request as printed copies. Two useful reports are:
  • Sustainable Procurement of Wood and Paper-based Products Guide and Resource Kit - a toolbox designed to help corporate managers understand and find the best advice on how to purchase products originating from the world’s forests. (April 2008) Download the kit here.
  • Sustainable Procurement of Wood and Paper-based Products, an Introduction - Decisions regarding the purchase and use of wood and paper-based products can have far-reaching, long-term impacts for the forests where they are harvested, the communities supported by wood-using industries, and the places where those products are purchased and used. (October 2007) Download the document here.
As I looked over the case studies, this one caught my eye: Triple Green Paper Promotes Sustainability. Did you know that sugar cane fiber can be used to make paper? Sappi Stanger Mill is one of only a few mills in the world that uses sugar cane fiber as its primary source of pulp. It is not only an annually renewable resource but a recycled raw material.
