First Coated Stock for Production Inkjet Introduced by NewPage
NewPage was the first paper manufacturer to bring to market a coated stock optimized for production inkjet. Availability of an affordable coated stock solution is at the top of the wish list for many production inkjet press owners. We expect to see much more activity in this space between now and drupa. In the interim, Senior Editor Cary Sherburne spoke with the folks at NewPage to get the full story.

Thanks for the comment. I am sure we will see more announcements, including support for more engines, between now and drupa! It is a big step ... exciting!
Cary: Ten years ago I stood before a group of print sales people in Houston discussing how to sell one-to-one.
I blurted out "You know folks - ten years from now magazines and catalogs will be fully variable and you know what? - It will be via inkjet."
Frankly, I have no idea where that came from. I had no empirical evidence nor any data at all to support the statement. To this date I'm still flabbergasted that I said it.
Well I did say it, and it has come true - at least we're really on the way there now. I'll let you know when I blurt something like that out again. We can all make a lot of money>
I have seen samples and the quality is excellent. I don't know about fully variable magazines and catalogs-- the printing industry has lost out on that opportunity (after many years of trying) with advent of the iPad.
Nonetheless, this is very exciting stuff and there are numerous appropriate applications for this!
I think it's important to note that the TrueJet™ Digital Coated Papers recently won a 2011 InterTech™ Technology Award from the Printing Industries of America.
From what I've read and seen, this is the result of many years of work and is a real game changer.
