In 1996 Mark Sanders of Virginia Tech submitted a grant proposel to the Graphic Arts Education and Research Foundation (GAERF) outlining a new Website that would "support and enhance the work of graphic communication teachers and students throughout the US and the world."

A short time later the GRAPHIC COMM CENTRAL (GCC) Web site and the GCC Listserv was officially launched at the IGAEA Conference in August 1997. Over the years the site became a tremendous resource teachers and students alike.

Print 09 marks the end of the original GRAPHIC COMM CENTRAL Website. During the show, GAERF is launching graphicCOMMcentral. According to GAERF, the new site will "provide a direct connection to an extensive network of resources and information for and about today’s graphic communications industry. This invaluable tool will be a gateway to industry web sites that offer cutting edge information about industry markets and trends, technology updates, education and career opportunities, breaking industry news – and more."
