There’s still time for printers to enter one of the industry’s longest-running and most arts prestigious graphic arts competitions: IAPHC’s International Gallery of Excellence. Entries will be accepted until June 30 for the 2009 edition of the event, which IAPHC—the coordinating organization for Clubs of Printing House Craftsmen around the world—has produced for 35 years. Entries can be submitted in more than 80 product categories, and all printing and binding/finishing processes are eligible. Panels of printing experts judge the entries on the quality and difficulty of the processes used, taking into account production values such as ink coverage, intensity of solids, registration, dot structure, paper usage, binding, finishing, overall visual appearance, and effectiveness of communication. Gold, Silver, Bronze and Honorable Mention awards are presented, and all Gold winners are eligible for the sponsored Best of the Best Awards. IAPHC publicizes winning entries and offers p.r. assistance to entrants wishing to turn their prize-winners into marketing tools. The organization also recommends entrants to those who ask it to provide referrals for sources of printing services. There’s no banquet or ballyhoo attached to IAPHC’s International Gallery of Excellence, but it’s as serious an homage to the arts of printing as any other competition the industry has to offer. And, only the International Gallery of Excellence can claim linkage to the history and traditions of the Craftsmen’s Clubs. Complete information, including rules and entry forms, is available at the IAPHC web site. Entrants can also call IAPHC at 1-800-466-4274.
