Inkjet technology is dominating many conversations at drupa 2008. Yesterday RR Donnelley quietly announced a new four color inkjet web press that the company developed in-house. The press dubbed the IPS 3 prints on a 30 inch wide web at 400 feet per minute for four color print output and 800 feet per minute for two color output.

In a statement from the company, Thomas J. Quinlan III, President and Chief Executive Officer said, "RR Donnelley has been quietly developing printing technologies for more than thirty years. We listen carefully to our customers and serve their needs with an optimal blend of proprietary and commercially available solutions. Our talented technology team developed IPS 3 to support growing customer demand for a higher quality, higher speed and more cost-effective four color variable printing system."

The press was designed to meet the requirements of financial services and TransPromo applications.

RR Donnelley has a reputation for engineering proprietary systems to complement commercially available products and has developed a substantial IP portfolio over the years.
