Should a Magazine Launch First in Print or Online?

FOLIO: magazine has an article by Jason Fell on "the Launch Dilemma: Print or Digital First," that looks at the benefits of launching a magazine first in print or starting out online-only.
Fell turns to magazine publishers that offer a compelling case for choosing one or the other. One comment that caught my attention was Online editorial director Adam McGill of Dallas-based D magazine who prefers print magazines over online media due to the amount of distractions that can be found in the online space. Fell provides the perfect analogy to compare print and online counterparts, "Having a start-up with a print version is like meeting the reader on a blind date - intense and one-on-one. The online version would be more like meeting someone at a very loud party with many others looking to interrupt your conversation and introduce themselves."

The problem is that more people are attracted to loud parties than they are blind dates. ;-)
