Et Tu, Frank?

Frank bemoans the loss of local bookstores—and takes responsibility for some of it. He shows two books he bought online and one produced via on-demand printing. The changes in the way book buyers—like Frank—buy books has had a profound effect on the local bookstore.

Not to quibble, but I think what you are doing with your books is just-in-time manufacturing, not true print on demand. A print-on-demand book isn't produced until it's purchased. That's not what you are doing. You're filling a supply chain and then going back to order more as needed. That's just-in-time manufacturing. With just-in-time manufacturing, books can go out of print even when a digital copy remains stored somewhere. It still takes the will of a publisher to produce another run. When they no longer care to fill the supply chain, the book is essentially out of print. That's not the case if you offer your book through Lulu.com or Ingram or Amazon or any other on-demand book service.
P.S. Congratulations on your new book on the Ludlow Typograph!
