Need-based scholarship designed for students in Graphic Communications program
Fairfax, Va. – Scholarships do more than help fund an education. They motivate and encourage students, according to Erin Nuss, Manager of Workforce Development, Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA).
“Scholarships were important to my pursuit of a career in graphic communications,” said Nuss, a 2015 graduate of Millersville University. “Having an outside supporter who wanted me to succeed in this field I had a passion for gave me that extra confidence I needed to move forward and dream big.”
The financial aspects of the scholarship have repercussions, too. Nicole Gormley, Marketing Manager, NAPCO Media, a 2017 graduate of Temple University, said, “The scholarship I had during college meant I could focus more on school and less on taking extra shifts at work. It was a relief.”
To provide that type of support, SGIA and NAPCO Media have founded the PRINTING United Annual Scholarship in Graphic Communications at Clemson University, a $4,000 per year, need-based award that begins with the 2019 – 2020 academic year.
“It’s critical that we encourage and engage the next generation of graphic communications professionals. This scholarship will support deserving students as they pursue their career goals,” said SGIA Executive Vice President James Martin, who chairs the Industry Advisory Board of Clemson’s Sonoco Institute of Packaging Design and Graphics.
“We are appreciative to SGIA and NAPCO Media, both for their support through the PRINTING United Scholarship as we continue to attract and retain top student talent for our Graphic Communications program, and also as dedicated partners of the Sonoco Institute,” said Chip Tonkin, Clemson’s Chair of Graphic Communications and Director of the Sonoco Institute. Clemson University’s Graphic Communications program is top-ranked in the U.S. with a global reputation for outstanding faculty, students, facilities and industry support.
PRINTING United (Dallas, October 23 - 25, 2019), a new event from SGIA and NAPCO Media, will focus on the opportunities created by the convergence of printing technologies and markets — the very environment graphic communications students will enter after graduation.
“PRINTING United is about the printing industry that is developing, and that future relies on today’s students. We’re proud to help them become members of the community,” added Mark J. Subers, President/CRO, Printing and Packaging, NAPCO Media.
