John P. Pow Company Broadens Service Offerings with MGI

Press release from the issuing company

MELBOURNE, FLA – MGI Digital Graphic Technology, a leading manufacturer of digital printing and finishing solutions, announced today that Boston-based John P. Pow Company has invested in a JETvarnish 3D inkjet spot UV coater.

John P. Pow Company is a third-generation family-owned lithography business that has been serving book publishers as well as commercial printers for more than 70 years. Primary applications include paperback covers, dust jackets and inserts and with a broad range of digital (four-color) and offset equipment ranging from two to six colors, John P. Pow Company has the flexibility to produce print runs from five to 500,000.

Whether a customer has been with John P. Pow Company for decades or is working with them for the first time, the pledge remains the same: competitive prices, the highest level of quality and outstanding customer service.

For years, John P. Pow Company had been outsourcing their spot UV work, but as demand increased, they began to search for a digital solution that would allow them to keep their jobs in-house. They also wanted to decrease turnaround times and offer more options for spot UV on shorter runs, while maintaining the outstanding quality their customers had come to expect. After researching the available options on the market, John P. Pow Company chose the JETvarnish 3D from MGI.

“The JETvarnish 3D was the only solution that fulfilled our key requirements for speed and quality on digital spot UV coating while offering new options for 3D raised effects,”  said Mark Finneran, Owner/General Manager with John P. Pow Company.

“We felt very comfortable with MGI as our partner,” continued Finneran. “As a stable public company with a 31-year history of business success and many industry awards to their name, MGI is an innovator with a proven track record of thought leadership in toner and inkjet printing and finishing technologies. The service and support we’ve received has been excellent.”

Since installing the JETvarnish 3D in early April 2013, John P. Pow Company has already begun to realize a significant return on their investment. Their customers love the ability to finally see a proof of their project complete with spot UV, a feature never before possible via traditional methods. Orders to date have ranged from one (as a proof or prototype) to 20,000 sheets.

John P. Pow has also launched new programs offering 3D raised effects and boutique spot UV for not just their traditional book publishing applications such as dust jackets and covers, but also for comprehensive client marketing communications programs.

“The JETvarnish 3D definitely gives us a competitive advantage,” said Finneran. “We’ve been able to gain access to new clients that we weren’t engaged with before, which provides us with a wealth of new business opportunities.”
