Fong Brothers Printing Targets Heavier Packaging With Mitsubishi Wide Stock Range Press

Press release from the issuing company

June 21, 2007 -- BRISBANE, Calif. -- One of the largest printing companies in northern California, Fong Brothers Printing, Inc. caters to corporate clients and advertising agencies with its short-run brochures, flyers and marketing materials. The high-quality commercial printer has added packaging and folding cartons printed on heavier board to its portfolio.

Fong Brothers installed a six-color, 40-inch Mitsubishi Diamond 3000LX sheetfed press at its headquarters facility in Brisbane, Calif., a suburb of San Francisco. The Diamond 3000LX handles stock ranging from 0.002 inches to 0.040 inches, including paper, board and synthetic substrates.

Prior to installing the wide stock range press, Fong Brothers typically produced small to medium-run packaging on substrates up to 24-point.

"We print a lot of product boxes for the technology industry," said Tony Fong, president. "This press will allow us to print regular commercial projects, but also will provide greater flexibility in the types and sturdiness of cartons the company can produce."

Fong noted that the printer currently has no plans to incorporate corrugated boxes and package converting into its production.

Fong Brothers was founded in 1971. About 200 people are employed by the $24 million, privately owned enterprise.

Fong Brothers operates two production facilities in the San Francisco Bay area, as well as a printing and graphic systems distribution firm in Changzhou, China. To tap into the growing market for large-format printing, Fong Brothers launched a large-format division. The company also maintains sales and service offices to support its domestic and international operations.

The comprehensive sheetfed and web press lineup at Fong Brothers production plants covers the spectrum of printing needs from one to eight colors. The company can offer its customers both inline aqueous and off-line ultraviolet coating capabilities.

By delivering a full range of prepress, press and postpress services, Fong Brothers streamlines the production process to give its customers a "one-stop shop." Fong Brothers responds to the demands for more and diverse services with sophisticated and powerful tools.

Fong cites the company's new Mitsubishi press as one such tool. The Diamond 3000LX shares the pressroom floor with two six-color, 40-inch Mitsubishi sheetfed presses that print up to 0.024-inch stock.

"We know from experience that Mitsubishi can compete against any other press as far as printing quality and performance," Fong said. "Corporate culture is also an important factor in choosing a vendor. We have been most impressed with the Mitsubishi organization and the way the company stands behind its equipment."
