Standard Hunkeler Solutions to Blanket the Hall at Graph Expo

Press release from the issuing company

(Andover, Massachusetts) -- Standard Finishing Systems will show a comprehensive portfolio of Standard Hunkeler unwinding, cutting, stacking, rewinding and folding solutions in partnership with leading continuous-feed digital print suppliers – including IBM, Océ, Screen and Xerox – throughout the hall at Graph Expo. These various solutions are tailored to meet the application requirements of the commercial print, print on demand, book publishing, transactional printing, and direct mail industries. Standard Finishing Systems – Booth 2446 Direct Mail – Roll-to-self Mailer Transactional Statement Printing – Roll-to-fanfold The Standard Hunkeler CS6 Rotary Cutter with Chip-Out will premier as part of a solution producing full-bleed trimmed color self mailers. The new Standard Hunkeler UW6 unwinder and high performance CS6 cutter will be double-cutting sheets from a roll pre-printed on the Kodak Versamark VX5000 color inkjet printer. The sheets will then be folded into direct mailers on the in-line Standard Horizon AFC-744 automated signature folder. The newest Standard Hunkeler Gen6 solutions handle paper from 40 to 300 gsm with ease, and can be operated either in-line with digital printers or off-line. With speeds up to 600 fpm, two independent dynamically-controlled rotary cutters, and variable chip-out between 1/8" and 3", the CS6 is ideally suited for demanding direct mail, transactional, and other applications that require full-bleed trim or chip-out of a cross-web perforation. Setups and adjustments are easily performed at the touch screen control console, and dynamic changes in cut length are carried out automatically based on UP3I or barcode information. Also shown will be the UP3i-enabled Standard Hunkeler FS4 Folder, supporting a roll-to-fanfold transactional application. The FS4 features speeds up to 500 fpm, automated set-up, and format changes with no requirement for manual gear adjustment. The FS4 is capable of operating in-line to the latest and fastest generation of continuous feed printers. IBM Printing Systems – Booth 2600 Print on Demand – Roll-to-stack Lightweight Paper The Standard Hunkeler lightweight (down to 27 lb. offset) roll-to-stack solution will be running in-line with the IBM InfoPrint 4100 HD3/4 Printing System, producing straight and accurate book blocks at full printer speed. The straight and fully separated book blocks can be easily transferred to a near-line perfect binding solution, such as the Standard Horizon BQ-270 automated off-line perfect binder and HT-30 automated off-line three-side trimmer. Océ North America – Booth 1263 Print on Demand – Roll-to-stack Lightweight Paper The Standard Hunkeler lightweight roll-to-stack solution will be running in-line with an Océ VarioStream 9230 Printing System, producing digital newspapers on-demand. The oversized sheets will be stacked in a special 27" long stacker. With this same solution, fully-separated book blocks can exit the system in perfect alignment for efficient near-line finishing. Xerox – Booth 1217 Print on Demand – Roll-to-sheet The Standard Hunkeler roll-to-cut solution will be running in-line with a Xerox DocuPrint 1050 Printing System. The Hunkeler CS4 Wide Rotary Cutter will deliver sheets for in-line finishing, with the capability to run at speeds up to 500 fpm. Superior reliability, quick changeovers, and accurate, long-life cutting performance allow Standard Hunkeler paper handling systems to excel at this application. Screen – Booth 3802 Print on Demand – Roll-to-roll The new Standard Hunkeler Gen6 UW6 unwinder and RW6 rewinder will be demonstrated with the Screen Truepress Jet 520 Digital Inkjet Color Press. The newest Standard Hunkeler roll-to-roll solution delivers constant web tension for uniformly tight and straight rolls, reaching speeds from 30 to 720 fpm with the capacity to handle paper from 27 lb. offset to 110 lb. cover with ease. Unwind and rewind in either direction to eliminate the need for a web flip bar. New Ways to Finish Graph Expo 06 will also serve as the North American launching pad for the new Standard Horizon SB-07 seven-clamp automated perfect binder, and the new Standard Horizon SPF-200A automated saddlestitcher. These announcements further Horizon's strategy to leverage advanced automation across the bindery, with color touchscreen operation and end-to-end stepper-motor control. Standard serves commercial printers, digital printers, Fortune 500 banks and utilities, direct mailers, publishers, and service bureaus of all sizes with Hunkeler and Horizon feeding and finishing solutions. According to David Reny, managing director, Standard Finishing Systems, “The broad technical knowledge and applications expertise of our sales force -- in both graphic arts and digital print environments -- helps us tailor solutions to fit the exact requirements of these companies.” Show attendees are invited to see a virtual preview of the Standard booth and to sign-up for a personalized equipment demonstration by visiting www.sdmc.com/graph06virtual.
