Kodak Automates Packaging Layout Process with Enhanced Software

Press release from the issuing company

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sept. 11—New features in KODAK PANDORA 2.9 software further automate the process for creating packaging layouts, saving customers time and money. Users can dynamically modify applied step and repeat parameters, saving time on such tasks as positioning 1-ups on the layout, changing the step amount, or placing registration, color bars or other production marks. The new software also provides the ability to import dies for folding carton layouts. PANDORA 2.9 software allows users to drag and drop predefined SmartMarks, intelligent marks that position and automatically size themselves on a layout. Any of the 60 built in packaging marks or any user generated custom marks can be made into SmartMarks. Label marks, text marks with variable data, and details such as date, color and job name that are dynamically previewed and inserted when printing can also be defined as SmartMarks. “I think the new step and repeat function in PANDORA 2.9 software is incredible,” said Mark Jetzer, Prepress Manager, Access Business Group, a multi disciplined packaging printer in Ada, Mich. “I now have eight folders of SmartMarks for automatic layouts. The right color bar, side guide and QA labels simply fall into place, and I make fewer mistakes now. Before it was easier to forget a mark like a side guide or register mark that I wouldn’t notice until I saw a soft proof.” PANDORA 2.9 software features one of the most simple and most flexible user interfaces in prepress packaging. With extensive availability of drag and drop actions, most printers ramp up to full speed on the software in just one day, making it an attractive tool for commercial printers diversifying into the packaging market. “The enhanced features in PANDORA 2.9 software save customers time previously spent on manually repetitive and redundant tasks,” said Steve Miller, Product Manager, Packaging Workflow, Kodak’s Graphic Communications Group. “This frees up users to focus their time, skills and effort on activities that add value to their customers.” KODAK products are backed by KODAK Service and Support, Kodak’s worldwide service organization.
