Alderson Brothers, UK, joins major league with order for two Goss M600 presses

Press release from the issuing company

The Alderson Brothers Print Group, one of the largest privately owned commercial printers in the south of England, has placed an order with Goss International for two Goss M-600 16-page web presses to offer increased capacity for its commercial printing division. The new presses are part of a £10 million investment and will propel the Group to be one of the major players in the UK commercial printing industry. Ron Alderson, Joint Managing Director at The Alderson Brothers Print Group, comments, “We have reached capacity with our existing equipment and wanted to invest in a press that would enable us to take a giant leap in terms of technology. In this industry you have to be at the forefront of technology development or you risk falling behind. The Goss M-600 presses have a reputation for proven print quality and reliability and will ensure our customers receive the very best value for money. “With these new presses it’s like we have just gone up two divisions in the football league. We’re confident we can soon fill the extra capacity and prove that we belong in the premiership.” According to Ron, although the commercial print industry in the UK has experienced a slow-down over recent years, The Alderson Brothers Print Group has continued to invest. The company has four sites offering sheetfed, web offset, digital and packaging printing, ensuring it can offer a cost-effective solution whatever the customer demands, including delivery and logistics. The web offset division is consistently the busiest of its four facilities. Andy Campbell, Web Press Director, explains, “Our aim is to be the customer’s preferred choice for printed material by consistently delivering competitively priced, high-quality products and services and we can only do this by investing in our people and the latest technology.” The main area of work for the web offset division is leaflets and magazines for blue-chip customers some of which are household names in the utilities and automotive industries. The new presses will open up many new opportunities, according to Andy Campbell: “Having everything under one roof offers our customers better production time efficiencies, more peace-of-mind through a reduced reliance on outside suppliers and, most of all, superior quality assurance. We are proud of our reputation for quality and customer care and go that extra mile to achieve it.” The two six-unit Goss M-600 presses will be housed in a brand new facility at Alderson Brothers’ site in West Molesey, Surrey. Both will be equipped with automatic blanket washers. The first M-600 press installation, scheduled to be shipped in October this year, will be equipped with a Goss Contiweb Splicer, Goss Contiweb Ecotherm dryer and a Vits sheeter. The second press due for shipment in July 06 is the high-speed M-600 D press model, which will be equipped with a Goss Contiweb CS splicer and Ecotherm dryer. Peter Alderson, Joint Managing Director relates, “Web offset printing for the commercial market is an area we see potential growth and we want to capitalize on it. A key consideration when purchasing the M-600 web presses was the flexibility it would give us. It is renowned for being able to provide the sharpest web printing on the market and will enable us to switch work between sheetfed and web to offer our customers the very best prices on any size print run.” John Chambers, Goss International’s UK Commercial Web General Sales Manager concludes, “The Alderson Brothers Print Group has chosen a 16-page press that will provide optimum flexibility to enhance and complement their existing business. The M-600 press is already taking orders from sheetfed press suppliers due to its ability to match in print quality while providing the obvious additional production capacity of web printing. The Goss M-600 press has earned a worldwide reputation for the highest print quality and reliability, but its versatility for a range of applications is making it the leader in its class.” The Alderson Brothers Print Group was founded in 1960 and has grown steadily with continual investment in state-of-the-art technology to meet the demands of its customers. The company now has turnover of £20 million.
