Xerox Signs $15 Million in Services Contracts at Three Healthcare Organizations

ROCHESTER, N.Y.--April 2, 2003--Seeking a competitive edge in the healthcare industry, three healthcare organizations have chosen Xerox Corporation's Global Services division to revamp their business processes and help cut document-management expenses up to 30 percent. The three contracts total $15 million.
Xerox Global Services will evaluate and improve existing document-intensive business processes for the clients -- Arkansas Blue Cross/Blue Shield, HealthNow New York Inc. and United Health Services -- to sharpen customer communication, manage business-critical forms and reduce unnecessary spending.
"In today's complex healthcare arena, business simplification is the key to reducing costs and improving productivity," said Thomas J. Dolan, president, Xerox Global Services. "We encourage our clients to assess business processes before implementing new technology, and by doing so we have helped them save thousands of dollars in time, resources and expenses."
Arkansas Blue Cross/Blue Shield, the state's largest health insurer, plans to raise its level of customer service and improve communications through a $5.1 million contract with Xerox Global Services. The health insurer also plans to use Xerox's Office Document Assessment to evaluate daily work processes and find ways to improve access to information. The organization will use an ODA to identify additional ways to reduce document-related operating costs by up to 30 percent.
HealthNow New York Inc., a health insurance provider in New York state, streamlined its member communications process through a $4.4 million agreement with Xerox Global Services. HealthNow can mail out membership information faster and has seen an increase in customer satisfaction, using Xerox's print-on-demand enrollment kit solution to create a personalized welcome kit for its members. The Xerox solution decreased the cost of the kits by 20 percent.
United Health Services, a healthcare network in New York state, expects to save nearly $100,000 in forms alone under a $5.5 million agreement with Xerox Global Services for Web-based forms management. By building a digital forms repository, Xerox has created a more efficient process for viewing documents online and placing orders, eliminating costs associated with excess production of forms.
