Tom Basore, of the Web Printing Associations, Announces Retirement

ALEXANDRIA, VA (January 17, 2003) — Thomas "Tom" Basore, Executive Director of the Web Offset Association (WOA) and the Web Printing Association for Open Web & Coldset Printers (WPA), special industry groups of the Printing Industries of America, Inc. (PIA), has announced his intention to retire. He has held this position since January 1988.
Basore’s background covers more than 43 years in the graphic arts industry. Beginning in 1959 as a pressman with the Nelson Doubleday Printing Company, his experience includes six years as a color photographer with McCall's Printing in Dayton, Ohio, and two years as electronic scanner operator at Graphic Arts of Ohio in Toledo.
In 1968, he joined E. I. DuPont as a graphic arts technical specialist. During the 17 years he spent with DuPont, he held a variety of positions including Proofing Markets Regional Specialist and Industry Relations Coordinator. In 1982, he was named Industry Relations Manager, Publication Markets. He conducted market studies to clarify industry needs for the market planning group. He also contributed to the formulation and presentation of print buyer seminars and national account proposals.
In 1985 he left DuPont in an early retirement program to accept the position of Sales Manager for Phototype Color Graphics, in Pennsauken, New Jersey, a $17 million color separation trade shop serving the advertising agency community in New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C.
Basore serves on the Board of Directors of SWOP (the standards review group for the magazine industry) and held the position of Chairman from 1991-1993. He has also served on the Board of Directors and was Chairman of CGATS (Committee, Graphics Arts Standards) an ANSI/ISO (American and International Printing Standards Organization), as well as on the SNAP (Specifications for Newsprint Advertising Printing) committee.
On January 2, 1988 Basore began his relationship with WOA and WPA. After many years of service, he was inducted into the Web Offset Society in May 2001. He will end his career on May 30, 2003.
Mr. Basore and his newly wedded wife, Irene, will retire to Amelia Island, FL.
