Textiles & Apparel: What to Expect at PRINTING United

As PRINTING United approaches, we checked in with SGIA’s Ray Weiss, Director of Digital Print Programs, to better understand what textiles and apparel solutions will be at this expanded show, and to get his advice on how commercial printers, display graphics companies, or other attendees interested in gaining a foothold in this dynamic market can most effectively get the information they need at the show.

As I am sure our readers are aware, the event that was formerly known as SGIA Expo now has an expanded focus and has been renamed PRINTING United. This will be a huge show, with more than 700,000 square feet of exhibit space, and pre-show planning could be a little daunting. That’s why I spoke to Ray Weiss, Director of Digital Print Programs at SGIA, to find out more about what kind of exhibits would be at the show, scheduled for October 23 to 25 in Dallas, specifically related to textiles and apparel. Weiss also runs the organization’s Product of the Year competition and awards program, so he chose to approach the discussion from that angle. For the 2019 competition, there were more than 200 entries in 72 categories.

WhatTheyThink: Ray, thanks for taking the time to speak with me. I’m sure things are very busy as you get ready for the show! In addition to your role in the Product of the Year competition, what other responsibilities do you have at SGIA?

Ray Weiss:  I provide tech support for anyone that has questions about anything digital. I also manage our two certifications: color management and vinyl installers.
