As the industry develops new manufacturing methods to meet this continued growth in demand, it is important to consider the environmental impact of these developments. This analysis explores some recent innovations in digital textile printing and considers the effect that these innovations may have on the environment.

According to Keypoint Intelligence – InfoTrends’ most recent digital textile forecast, about 7,000 digital textile printers were placed on a global basis in 2016. This value is expected to exceed 11,000 by 2021, demonstrating a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11% over the five-year forecast period. Sublimation systems—which are primarily lower-end systems used for short-run production and strike-offs—are a mainstayof these placements. Another category in this market includes higher-end systems that typically use reactive inks for printing on cotton or other cellulosic fabrics. Emerging systems with pigment inks are beginning to penetrate the industry and will primarily drive growth in home décor.
