The continuous-feed inkjet (CFIJ) area of the printing industry has evolved into a high-volume option for print service providers (PSPs) that are seeking to expand their digital printing capabilities. Keypoint Intelligence – InfoTrends (InfoTrends) records publicly announced placements of CFIJ printers, along with the types of PSPs that acquire these devices and the major applications they print. This article provides an overview of these placements in the past nine years by major application and vendor.

Between 2009 and 2017, InfoTrends recorded 365 placements of continuous-feed inkjet printers in the United States. These placements, which are made public by press releases, PSP equipment lists, presentations, and other sources, are categorized by the type of customer that purchased them and the major applications they print[1]. Categorization is performed when the information becomes public on a best match basis, so it should be kept in mind that the focus of the site might have changed since the acquisition of the device.

Since not all installations are made public, the 365 print lines that InfoTrends analyzed cover only a portion of total installations. Nearly all print lines are twin installations, so our analysis covers about half of the 1,417 total engines that were placed in the U.S. between 2009 and 2017.
