We talk about the decline of print and the impact of the move to paperless marketing and communications, but quietly, in the background, there is a slowly growing drumbeat called digital corrugated printing. Going beyond the simple requirement to enclose products, develop displays, and create shipping containers is the desire for brands to use packaging as billboards and to increase customer engagement.

The largest portion of packaging is created from static designs that are produced in high volumes, and this isn’t expected to change anytime soon...but there are growing islands of innovation in the printing of corrugated boards and preprint of liner ahead of corrugation that show the possibilities. Any brand can take advantage of digital packaging for short-run campaigns or to add a bit of differentiation to their market story. It may be an opportunity worth pursuing!

Properly executing on that imagination does require an understanding of the workflow, though.
