Adobe Tackles Next-Generation Digital Publishing with Summer Launch of Adobe Publish

We’ve written a fair amount about digital publishing in this space since we believe it presents a good opportunity for new revenue streams for printing firms – not only for traditional publishing applications but increasingly for sales enablement and other enterprise dissemination of information. Adobe is about to take this to the next level with its summer launch of Adobe Publish.

We’ve provided some great user stories about how both publishers and enterprises are using digital publishing tools like Adobe Digital Publishing Suite to better convey their messages and to take advantage of the rapid growth of mobile technologies. Now Adobe is poised to take its offerings in this space to the next level. The company has announced that it will be launching Adobe Publish in the summer timeframe.

“Why should I care?” you ask. “I don’t print magazines and I don’t do digital publishing. I’m a printer.” Digital publishing has gone way beyond magazines as this story and this story demonstrate. While digital publishing doesn’t always displace print, these two stories are cautionary tales about how it can do so; in one case, print spend was reduced by two-thirds and the company had a very long-term and satisfactory relationship with its printer!

Late last year, InfoTrends issued a report entitled “Digital Publication Platform Market Overview” showing that more than 90% of enterprises are moving from print to digital for a variety of documents, including annual reports, brochures and other corporate publications. The report also briefly discusses sales enablement opportunities. You can read the Adobe blog post on the subject here. While some companies choose to create these digital publications themselves, many would be willing to work with a trusted print service provider who is already printing brochures and other materials for them for a turnkey print/digital solution.
