Xerox Corporation has been silent regarding the recent lawsuit brought by On Demand Book Machine Corporation (ODMC) against Lightning Source Incorporated (LSI), Ingram Industries (LSI's parent company), and amazon.com. While not commenting directly on the recent trial, Peter W. Perine, Xerox Vice President for Publishing Segment Marketing, sent a letter to Xerox Publishing Sales Specialists, and a number of customers who have asked where the company stands on this important issue. In an email to ODJ Editor Noel Ward, Perine noted, " I believe it to be a fairly significant document since the ODMC patent suit could be interpreted to inhibit ALL print on demand without a license fee, a pretty scary possibility." The letter went out April 15 and is published here in its entirety. To view the complete letter click here. (PDF 9Kb)
