Time for an Updated Worldwide Printing Forecast

NPES has commissioned The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) to produce an updated worldwide print forecast. WhatTheyThink's Senior Editor Cary Sherburne spoke with Ken Lane, Business Development Manager, Americas, Economist Intelligence Unit, an Economist Group Business, along with representatives from NPES, to learn more about what to expect from the forecast.

And it's on its way from NPES and the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)  

PRIMIR, an industry research organization under the umbrella of NPES,  sponsored two previous studies on the "World Wide Market for Print", in 2006/2007, and then revised again in 2009/2010.  NPES CEO Ralph Nappi said, "Those forecasts met with great response worldwide. We believe that prior to these forecasts, there had never been such a comprehensive global look at print, equipment and supplies, all in one place." Nappi explains that the three segments will be forecasted by 51 separate countries and rolled up to regions.  He adds, "When NPES started its strategic planning process, we realized that with the industry dynamics over the past couple of years, the industry needs a regularly updated good look at what has happened-and is happening-in terms of print, equipment and supplies.  NPES took the lead and is driving the initiative with support from PRIMIR."

Following an RFP process, the Economist Intelligence Unit, was chosen to conduct this important work.  PRIMIR's Jackie Bland comments, "We will start from a macroeconomic perspective with demographics, literacy rates, broadband usage, etc. The EIU is golden in terms of their access to and analysis of that type of data. They come to the table with a foundation that is incredibly solid."
