PANTONE huey Grows Up

Tuesday, February 27, 2007

On February 26th, Pantone announced a new addition to its popular huey display calibration product family, hueyPRO. When huey was launched a year ago, Pantone’s Vice President of Marketing, Doris Brown, indicatedthat it would be the first in a family of products. One year later she says, “We learned so much by taking this  product to market.  We knew there was a need for monitor calibration that was affordable and easy to use for designers and amateur photographers. We wanted it to be simple, sexy and fun.  Never in our wildest dreams did we think that the professional community would gravitate to this product like they have.  They thought it was as good as what they were using, but asked us to add a few things to make it even better.  That was the genesis of hueyPRO.” Brown states that within its first year, huey gained the largest market share in its category and clean swept every award in the category. Pantone markets huey through a variety of channels, including photography outlets, big box stores, online and more.

Upgrades included in hueyPRO include the ability to support multiple monitors driven from the same computer. The settings options have also been opened up to enable more refined output off both monitors and printers.  Brown adds, “This is what professionals asked us to do.  They wanted that flexibility.” hueyPRO is also Windows Vista compliant, as is huey, the only calibration solutions that are already supporting Vista, according to Brown.

hueyPRO features enhanced help, including more color management information.  Brown says, “We found that once people start learning about color management, they understand that it isn’t that difficult.  We added a lot more to the help function to allow users to translate the knowledge they have about their monitors into delivering better print quality.”
