Wandering the aisles of PMA mid February was a bit of déjà vu. Our first PMA was in 1993. Walking the aisles that year, digital technology was beginning to show itself into a vast analog photo world. Scanners and digital printers had begun to offer advances over analog photographic means. Since then, PMA and the photo labs that frequented it, along with the professional photographers, have been on a rapidly changing roller coaster. 2004 was the pinnacle. The aisles were cluttered with innovative solutions, all digital, that integrated photography and large format digital printing, especially with flat bed UV printers. This year, we are hard pressed to discuss innovation that brought important new advances in our area of interest. We’ve spent the last month trying to make sense about what to report about PMA 2005.
