Packaging Challenges: How Is the Industry Responding?

RR Donnelly commissioned an online survey of 300 procurement, brand marketing, and packaging engineering decision makers to provide insights that inform strategy, priorities, and investments. Survey participants are located in the U.S. across a variety of industry sectors. The results are summarized in this article.

We were quite interested to see the R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company release a recent survey (registration required) of 300 U.S. professionals in the packaging industry, ranging from procurement, brand marketing and engineering decision makers. Entitled the Unpackaging Reality Report: The transformation of supply chain, sustainability, and online shopping, it highlighted how these professionals view the packaging market and what they are thinking about in terms of future actions to address the challenges they face.

The report was quite interesting. But as with any report of this nature, data was self-reported and there is no way to validate actual actions being taken or to hold anyone accountable. However, it does present an optimistic picture of where the industry is going and how, at least on the surface, changes in supply chain, sustainability and cost metrics are being perceived. The survey was conducted in April and May of 2022, which is slightly before the latest increases in inflation and interest rates.
