Nice piece. My understanding is the QWERTY layout in early days was designed to minimize the jamming of the typing hammers as they swung up to strike the ribbon and paper. For some reason it was left hand dominant. Dvorak's goal was to put more frequently used keys on the same home row, and to balance the load as between the left and right hands. It was only when electric typewriters became popular was it easy to offer Dvorak's layout, but by then it was too late. Godspeed. John Werner
