Frank Romano: By the way, that’s Shail Patel speaking and this is Rosemary Kehoe. And Rosemary Kehoe is the Chief Printer on board the Queen Mary II. We’re up on the 8 Deck, by the way, and there are lots of people around us. Some going into the pool, some are not. We’re not, by the way. And we’re going to talk about some of the things that they print here on the Queen Mary II and the first thing that Shail Patel was holding up was a little thing advising that they had a Champaign showcase in the Mayfair Shops. And then you guys printed that two-up and then cut it, right?
Shail Patel: Yeah.
Frank Romano: They cut a small cutter?
Shail Patel: Kind of small.
Frank Romano: Okay. The next thing I see there Rosemary Kehoe is the Board of Call. So every time we call on a particular port you guys print a little four-pager or a four-pager with an insert that talks about that particular location.
Rosemary Kehoe: These are actually all printed shoreside out of our on-land facility and they were all given to us in South Hampton before we joined.
Frank Romano: So they would have to know the quantity of number people getting on and all that kind of stuff.
Rosemary Kehoe: Yep. We printed a few hundred for every person.
Frank Romano: That’s another person in our crew, who’s in the distance by the way. Okay, Shail Patel, the next thing you have there is the USA Times. Now how does that come in?
Shail Patel: It just comes in as a PDF. We get them by e-mail and then we print them on the 80105, which is.
Frank Romano: And do you fold them?
Shail Patel: No. Housekeeping folds them.
Frank Romano: When they put them into our little slot next to the door. Now, that’s USA Times. What other countries do you print for?
Shail Patel: We also print Australia.
Frank Romano: And then anything else I want that they print in a special area, ‘cause I know some people get a New York Times as a statement. You can see how windy it is out here everybody. Okay. I think the next thing we have is the –
Rosemary Kehoe: The Daily Program.
Frank Romano: The Daily Program.
Rosemary Kehoe: And that’s printed in color every day. It’s 83 inch Shail Patel and than an A4 insert, and that’s printed on, Canon ImagePress.
Frank Romano: By the way, they’re absolutely gorgeous and for people who have ever taken a cruise you’ll remember that most of these were in black and white. Usually they printed them on preprinted stock where they had on them, but this has to be one of the most interesting and gorgeous pieces of printing on a cruise ship. Now was this one of the first ships to go completely digital?
Rosemary Kehoe: It was the first ship to go digital.
Frank Romano: And so is this going to happen on all the Cunard ships?
Rosemary Kehoe: Yes. It’ll be on Cunard ships by the middle of the summer.
Frank Romano: And what about the other Carnival ships like Princess Line and all those guys?
Rosemary Kehoe: They’re still working on switching the other lines.
Frank Romano: But Cunard is the first.
Rosemary Kehoe: But it hasn’t been finished, yeah.
Frank Romano: So there’s design that end-design and then they sent you guys a PDF and you put it toegether. So what’s your deadline?
Rosemary Kehoe: For housekeeping, which is the program and the newspaper is 5:00 in the evening. And then the menus are due at 8:00 p.m. for the following day.
Frank Romano: Well, we’re going to visit the Print Shop with the next video, but for now, thank you very much, and this is Frank Romano for WhatTheyThink.com
Next time…
I’m coming down a hallway to one of the most secret facilities in the world.

I think there is a typo in the headline Frank. Didn't you mean to say, "Printing NERDS" at Sea?
